All over the world, Berlin is known as a unique place, rich of history, creativity, energy and freedom. But what ultimately shapes this city into what it is, are the people that live there. The Berlinians is a cinematic portrait about Berlin’s diverse and progressive inhabitants, about those that create, that cultivate and innovate. Amsterdam Berlin partnered with Iconoclast Germany and filmmakers Marie and Feline Grub then set out to capture the spirit of those most relevant to the ever evolving culture of the German capital. This ongoing project gained a cover feature in Interview Magazine.

'Obroni wawu' translates directly to 'dress of the dead white man'. A description Ghanaian locals came up with when the first wave of second-hand clothes from the West swept into their country in the 1970’s. They could not believe that clothing of such quality was just given away. Instead they assumed that the previous owners must have died. Dead White Men's Clothes is a fashion project in collaboration with artist Jojo Gronostay. It sets out to provoke a discourse on capitalism, post-colonialism, waste, responsibility and the future of fashion. The fashion label sources used, discarded clothes on the Kantamanto Market in Accra, then reclaims, relabels and re-contextualizes them to sell back to the Western world as high fashion in the cycle of capitalism. The label’s profits are donated to support young African designers. The DWMC™ collection launched at Paris FW 2018 and sold out in the first 3 days.

Putting the post-colonial cycle of capitalism to good use

In motorsports, almost all athletes are dependent on external sponsors. Especially for female drivers, finding necessary funding to compete is a difficult task. Leveraging the power of community the LMG GT No.1 project set out to change that. Amsterdam Berlin and German 23 y/o racer Laura-Marie Geissler invented the female NFT-funded racing team. The project centres around a car designed to draw attention to women's objectification and outdated need to look pretty for press with a nod to the 1971 Porsche 'Pink Pig'. The outcome – a decentralised, self-empowered, community-driven model – offered a real sponsorship alternative and levelled the playing field for athletes, independent of gender, race or social status. "A decal on the rear side windows reads 'Show Me Your TTs', referencing twin-turbos is an obvious automotive-inspired middle finger to the stereotypes that women in any traditionally male-dominated space are frequently forced to push past." Building a self-empowered racing team

In 2017, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather received 275 million dollars after winning a fight against UFC Superstar Conor McGregor. A female fighter will never get close to that, even at the peak of their career. Instead they usually work 2 jobs to finance their professional careers. To tell these stories, Amsterdam Berlin and photographer Vitali Gelwich met the best female fighters in their most personal surroundings: their homes. The outcome is a 10-part series of snapshots about gender equality in sports and life. The portrayals were launched with Zeit Magazine and at 2 exhibitions in Amsterdam and Berlin with memorabilia on sale to take the message to the street.
